Commitment to equality and diversity
"UL has always considered gender equality and broader equality, diversity, and inclusion issues as a key priority and through dedicated leadership has embedded gender equality across the institution," UL President Professor Kerstin Mey.
We take great pride in being one of the first institutions in Ireland to achieve an Athena SWAN (AS) Bronze Institution Award (in July 2015).
In 2023 we became the first institution in Ireland to receive a prestigious Athena Swan Silver Award.
UL has been recognised as a leader in embedding gender equality as the first institution in the Irish Higher Education Sector to receive the silver award.
We are also the second university in Ireland to be awarded the Athena SWAN expanded charter. This award recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law, professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students.
