Seminar & Discussion on Experimental Research on Decision Making

Denis O’Hora (NUI Galway) will present his research on basic decision making using mouse tracking and eye tracking. His research focuses on simple perceptual or preference tasks or intertemporal choice and should be of interest to those working across economics, finance, accounting and organisational behaviour. Any faculty or research students with an interest in this area are welcome to attend.

Dr Patrick Buckley, winner of the KBS Excellence in Teaching Award

Congratulations to Dr Patrick Buckley, Management and Marketing, KBS, UL - winner of the KBS Excellence in Teaching Award.

This is the latest in a series of teaching awards for Dr Buckley and reflects an excellence that has been acknowledged at a variety of levels. Dr Buckley has previously been awarded the Jennifer Burke Award for Innovation in Teaching, along with the International Teaching Award: Wharton/QS Stars Bronze Award.

An insight into creating a knowledge inventory: Firms that leverage the know-how within their organisation will win out

Tacit knowledge is difficult to explain but it is like a reservoir of known but untaught knowledge amassed by doing, sharing and observing. Managed properly, it can give companies a big competitive advantage. But there’s the rub. Organisations often struggle to leverage their tacit knowledge, according to Fergal O’Brien, director of Limerick-based start-up ASSK Knowledge Analytics.

Outstanding students honoured at KBS/Northern Trust Awards

High achieving University of Limerick business and management students were this week honoured with a KBS/Northern Trust Outstanding Scholar Award. This is the 13th year of the awards run by the KBS, UL, and recognises the most outstanding scholars in the School each year. 55 students were presented their award certificates by Dr Philip O’Regan, Dean KBS, UL, and Nick Gilbert, Head of GFS Operations Ireland, Northern Trust at a ceremony, which took place at the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick.

Gerry Cross, Director of Policy & Risk at the Central Bank of Ireland: Financial regulation in a time of uncertainty

You are invited to a speech by Gerry Cross, Director of Policy and Risk, Central Bank of Ireland. In the speech, Gerry will focus on the evolution of the financial regulatory agenda since the start of the financial crisis in 2007. It will explore whether we have achieved what was set out in the wake of the crisis and present the outstanding challenges facing the Irish and European financial system in the coming years, from Brexit to Cybersecurity.
