University of Limerick has again been ranked joint first in Ireland for sports-related subjects.

UL has three subjects ranked in the top 100 according to the new QS World University Rankings 2024 by Subject, which have just been announced.

Internationally, UL has improved its ranking in the broad category of Arts & Humanities (383=) and Life Sciences & Medicine (501-550).

In the individual subject disciplines, UL is ranked in the 51-100 range worldwide for sports-related subjects, performing arts and nursing, with two subjects in the 100-150 range – education and english language and literature.

In all, UL’s ranking performance has improved in 10 subjects.

At a national level UL is ranked joint first in sports-related subjects for the second consecutive year, and is second in performing arts, second in education, second in engineering – chemical, second in materials science and third in nursing.

The subject rankings cover a total of 55 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas.

The subject rankings announcement, follows on UL’s significant improvement in its position in the 2024 QS World University Rankings, climbing more than 100 places to a ranking of 426 overall.

UL is now in the top 2% of universities in the world.

The 2024 rankings encompass a comprehensive evaluation of the performance of the world’s top 1,503 universities, spanning 104 countries.

For the QS World University Rankings 2024 by Subject, research citations, along with the results of the QS global surveys of employers and academics are used to rank universities.
