University of Limerick has received enormous interest in its new BA programme, which is now ranked as the highest general-entry arts course in the country with 360 points.
One of the programme’s strengths is its range of 19 subjects with 176 possible combinations to degree level.
Professor Tom Lodge, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, said he was “overjoyed that so many talented young people would be joining the course” and looked forward to welcoming them next week.
This year saw a slight trend in CAO points for BA Arts programmes across Ireland’s universities decreasing.
Equivalent programmes in UCC, DCU and Maynooth University saw such a decrease, while UCD saw a rise of just six points.
NUIG remained static with 300 points necessary for its Arts Joint Honours Degree.
UL's programme is offered in association with Mary Immaculate College, which offers a number of subjects to UL students.
The programme also offers:
•The opportunity to choose subjects once students are on campus;
•The opportunity to choose subjects to degree level after one semester;
•A range of broadening modules to allow students to engage with topics outside of their chosen subjects;
•Individual academic advisors to assist students with subject choices and any other questions or issues which may arise.
Also, UL’s BA in Journalism and New Media is the highest points journalism course across Irish institutes with 420 points.
This year saw a drop in CAO points for all equivalent courses across Ireland, including those in DIT, NUIG and Griffith College.
