MA Public History & Cultural Heritage alumni present their research at Queen's University Belfast

Three of the most recent graduates of the MA Public History & Cultural Heritage programme presented their dissertation research at the 'Why Public History Matters' conference on 13-14 June 2024. This was the inaugural Conference of the European Network of Public History Masters Programmes, organised by students on the MA in Public History programmes at Queen's University Belfast and the University of York. The keynote, titled 'There shall be hope: the 1001 reasons to study and practice public history' was delivered by Thomas Cauvin, Associate Professor of Public History at the Centre for Contemporary and Digital History, University of Luxembourg. UL was represented by Pearse Grimes who spoke about 'The Connaught Rangers: a case study in public commemoration', Katie Blackwood, who spoke about 'Archival donation as public history: care, affect, and emotion work in the National Irish Visual Arts Library', and Deirdre McGuirk, whose spoke about 'Cilliní as Sites of Conscience in modern Ireland: community, memory and social justice'.
