At the School of Law, we have strong international links and are committed to continuously expanding our international focus in all facets of our School. In addition to the extensive range of international opportunities available to all our students each year, the School of Law hosts an important cohort of international students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level with students attending from countries such as China, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain. Drawn to the vibrant, diverse, and friendly environment of the School of Law, students engage in a wide range of legal study.

Non-EU undergraduate and postgraduate students may apply for generous AHSS Faculty scholarships to undertake such study at the School of Law.

 

Erasmus and International Exchanges

At undergraduate level, we have a long tradition of welcoming large numbers of students through Erasmus, the EU's flagship education and training programme. 

The School of Law has well-established links to a range of European universities and the University of Limerick is among the top 100 Erasmus host universities according to recent statistics released by the EU Commission. We also welcome international full degree students and those completing 2+2 study options from our Chinese partner institutions: Sichuan University, Chengdu; Tianjin Foreign Studies University; Hebei University of Technology; and University of Science and Technology, Beijing.

International Postgraduates

At postgraduate level, the School of Law offers an impressive range of internationally focused taught modules. Students may undertake modules such as International Business Transactions and Global Competition Law delivered through the LLM in International Commercial Law. Moreover, through the LLM/MA in Human Rights in Criminal Justice students may study modules including Comparative International Protection of Human Rights Law, International Criminal Law, and Comparative Criminal Justice. Alternatively, students may design their own programme of study by undertaking the LLM (General).

The School of Law also hosts a number of international postgraduate research students currently in the process of completing Masters and PhDs under the supervision of our outstanding and internationally renowned academic staff.

Recent research, for example, includes investigations of Chinese family law and critiques of the Saudi Arabian legal system. The School of Law delivers three absorbing and highly engaging Summer Schools to visiting international students each year: "Law in Ireland", "Terrorism,  Crime, and Justice", and "Historical perspectives of justice in Ireland: Folk devils, fornicators, and families".

International Recognition of your UL Law Degree

Law degrees obtained at the University of Limerick are recognised by a range of professional legal bodies and accrediting boards around the world. In Ireland, our degrees are recognised by Honourable Society of Kings Inns, Dublin and the Law Society of Ireland.

Internationally, we have secured recognition of our degrees from the Bar Council of India and have developed strong links, in particular, with the National Committee on Accreditation in Canada, the New York State Board of Law Examiners in the US and the Solicitors Regulation Authority in England and Wales to help our many graduates seeking to practice oversees navigate the process.
