In May 2020, Dr Alan Cusack was appointed to conduct a national review of An Garda Síochána’s risk assessment practices with a particular focus on designing a revised Risk Assessment Form - C.84(A).
This review was commissioned pursuant to the Government’s report, A Policing Service for our Future (2018).
The completion of this review addresses an important recommendation raised by the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland (The Future of Policing in Ireland, 2018).
At the time of writing, the findings from this review have been presented to the Strategic Human Rights Advisory Committee and they are expected to inform the design of new risk assessment protocols for all members of An Garda Síochána nationwide.
For further information, the Gardaí have made available a note on the procedural impact of this review.
