Congratulations to Hugh Greaney, who graduated with an LLB from the Graduate Entry degree on Tuesday 21 January 2025. Hugh graduated from the BA Criminal Justice and availed of the one-year pathway to the Graduate Entry programme. Hugh is a member of An Garda Siochana and is stationed in Kildare. As a Trainee Garda, Hugh featured in two national news stories. In a video featuring Irish Independent Journalist, JJ Clarke, Hugh discussed the fitness test. Hugh was also interviewed in Irish on the Nuacht on TG4 on the same question.

Pictured with Hugh is his father Gerry and sister Elaine. All three are School of Law alumni. Elaine is a graduate of the interfaculty degree, Law and Accounting. She is an Audit Manager at EY having previously worked as a Senior Associate with PwC. Gerry holds degrees in Business (BBS), Law (Evening LLB), and International Commercial Law (LLM) from UL. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (FCA), having trained and qualified in practice with PwC; he has extensive international business experience as a finance director in the multinational sector. Gerry’s research interests are in the areas of commercial, company, and contract law, intellectual property law, and international tax law. He has published on EU patent law in Business Law Review. He is currently undertaking a PhD under the supervision of Professor Raymond Friel and Professor Eimear Spain. His thesis is entitled “Intellectual property: Developing a new taxonomy for a more responsive approach to the needs of an innovation-based economy”.
