Last week Dr Laura Cahillane held an international seminar on judicial selection procedures as part of an IRC-funded project. Experts from Canada, Germany, England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland spoke about the different methods for appointing judges in their jurisdictions and their experiences of the process. The seminar will feed into a report due to be published in the Autumn with the Irish Council for Civil Liberties which will contain recommendations for procedures to be adopted by the new Judicial Appointments Commission.
