

On 19th of March, the School of Law was delighted to welcome the Law Reform Commission for a visit to mark the Commission's 50th anniversary. The Commission co-hosted a seminar with the Centre for Crime, Justice & Victim Studies (CCJVS), on the Commission's ongoing Compensating Victims of Crime project. The seminar, “A Rights-Based Approach to Victims’ Compensation”, included presentations from Dr Susan Leahy (Director, CCJVS), Ms Joan Deane (Vice Chairperson, Advic) and Mr Justice Frank Clarke (President of the Law Reform Commission). The seminar was chaired by Ms. Siobhán Ní Chúlacháin, (Director of Research, Law Reform Commission) and was attended by UL staff and students and key stakeholders including legal professionals and representatives from victim support organisations.
During the visit, the representatives from the Commission also participated in events with students, including a seminar on careers with the Commission and a podcast recording with Mr Justice Frank Clarke, with the hosts of the Fifth Court Podcast, Mr Peter Leonard BL and Mr Mark Tottenham BL. The Fifth Court presenters also recorded interviews with School of Law faculty, Professor Jennifer Schweppe and Dr Susan Leahy.
