Caitlin Neachtain is a University Teacher in Technical Communication and Instructional Design at the University of Limerick. She is currently Acting Course Director for the MA in Technical Communication and E-Learning.
Caitlin has extensive expertise in language teaching and learning design at third level, having taught and coordinated language modules at Dublin City University and Maynooth University before returning west to take up research and training positions at the University of Galway and Mary Immaculate College. She developed the learning platform TG4 Foghlaim through the University of Galway in the 2016/17 academic year, which was awarded the European Language Label in its inaugural phase. She has also authored a broad selection of teaching manuals and learning resources that are in use in primary and post-primary schools across Ireland today, along with teaching a range of specialist Irish language courses and various programmes in the design and delivery of teaching and learning at all levels.
Her research interests include e-learning, language education, self-directed and personalised learning, learning assessment, blended and hybrid models of programme delivery, the use of authentic materials in language learning, applications of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) in learning, Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), and corpus linguistics.
Caitlin is a member of the steering committee for the Inter-Varietal Applied Corpus Studies (IVACS) research centre and is in the process of completing a PhD exploring the application of corpus methods to materials development for language learning at Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick. She is currently teaching modules at undergraduate level and supervising research at Master’s level.
