University of Limerick School of Medicine will host a screening of the new documentary titled "Burkitt", directed by Éanna Mac Cana, about the life and work of Irish surgeon Dr. Denis Burkitt who made ground breaking discoveries in cancer research. Mac Cana, a Burkitt's lymphoma survivor, offers a personal perspective on Burkitt's medical discoveries providing a powerful and insightful look into the life of a pioneering medical researcher and the lasting impact of his work. The film is told through both the Irish and English language.

After the screening, there will be a panel discussion with the director and filmmaker Éanna Mac Cana, where he will be joined by University of Limerick’s Dr Sorcha de Brún and Professor Paul Murray

Dr Sorcha de Brún is a Lecturer in Irish, in the School of English, Irish, & Communication. Professor Paul Murray is a lymphoma researcher in the School of Medicine and a founding member of the Limerick Digital Cancer Research Centre. Their discussions will offer unique insights and expertise on how science, medicine and creativity can intersect and unite - making this a truly multidisciplinary event which will have acute appeal to University of Limerick medical, language, film and creative community.
