May 2024, Dr. Sorcha de Brún from the School of English, Irish, & Communication was one of a small group of poets invited to read their poems at the launch of the collection Washing Windows IV: Irish Women Write Poetry in Books Upstairs, Dublin.
Sorcha's poem, 'Rialacha Cogaidh' (Rules of Engagement), was one of the Irish language poems chosen for the collection.
Edited by writer Nuala O'Connor author of Nora: A Love Story of Nora Barnacle and James Joyce (2017) and Seaborne (2024) and publisher, writer and editor Alan Hayes, Washing Windows IV is a collection featuring the work of women poets writing in English and Irish who are currently working on their first collections.
Published by Arlen House, the project is funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Foras na Gaeilge.
This is the third poem that Sorcha has published with this series of poetry anthologies: her poem, 'Bás Nádúrtha' (Natural Death) was described in O'Connor's foreword to a previous WW collection as 'finely crafted' and 'fresh'.
As of May 18 2024, Washing Windows IV had reached No. 2 in the Bestsellers Paperback Non-Fiction category in Ireland.
'Rialacha Cogaidh' follows hot on the heels of a selection of Sorcha's translations of Shakespeare's sonnets to Irish - an ongoing project - also published in May 2024 in Comhar.
