A Lot Done, A Lot More to Do? Trans People and the Law

The Hate and Hostility Research Group is delighted to announce its first seminar for the academic year 2015/2016: “A Lot Done, A Lot More To Do: Trans People and the Law”.

Speakers will include Broden Giambrone, Transgender Equality Network Ireland, Dr Amanda Haynes, HHRG, University of Limerick, and Dr Fergus Ryan, Department of Law, National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

The three guests will participate in an open discussion led by Jennifer Schweppe, HHRG, University of Limerick and will discuss issues such as the legal recognition of young trans, non-binary and intersex people, the issue of ‘gender reassignment’ in the context of the equality legislation, and the scope of protection offered by that legislation in the context of gender identity and gender expression, and transphobic hate crime and the need for change in the law.

The seminar will take place from 1-2.30 in CG-055 which is in the teaching space opposite the entrance to the library. A light lunch will be served from 12.45.
