As part of the 31st Sylvester O'Halloran Meeting 2025, Professor Colum Dunne will be delivering the prestigious Paul O'Byrne Lecture at 5.00pm, on Thursday 27 February in the Main Auditorium, CERC Building in University Hospital Limerick.

 

This lecture will be of considerable importance to the future of medical education in the Mid-Western region and indeed in Ireland in general.

All are welcome to attend the lecture.  

Prof Colum Dunne BSc (Hons), PhD, MBA, LLM, FRCPath is currently the Head of the School of Medicine at University of Limerick and Foundation Professor and Director of Research.  Colum served in two terms of the University’s Governing Authority (University Board).  He was appointed Honorary Professor at Queen’s University Belfast in 2024. He is Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (London) (FRCPath), Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland, and Royal Society of Medicine (London).  He is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy Life and Health Sciences Committee (RIA).  Colum is a Trustee and Council Member of the Healthcare Infection Society (London).

The Sylvester O Halloran meeting is the largest perioperative meeting in the Irish Medical calendar.  The oranisers of the meeting would like to invite all to attend.   Key events in the meetings are the Sylvester'O Halloran and Thomas Myles lectures.  The former is being delivered by Professor Deborah McNamara (President of the RCSI) and the latter is being delivered by Professor Tara Connelly.  Professor Connolly established the first general surgical paediatric service outside of Dublin, in Ireland.   

During the course of this year's meeting over 270 research projects will be presented.  There are several maserclass sessions, a session by the Irish Research Collaborative, and a session on robotic surgery.
