The Teddy Bear Hospital event in UL was a huge success on March 8th. The feedback from the children, sponsors, volunteers, and reporters from the Limerick Leader was very positive. The energy in the arena was radiating, with the buzz of excitement apparent the moment you approached the doors. This year TBH hospital hosted 470 students from 8 local primary schools (Doon Covent, Gaelscoil Chaladh, Our Lady of Lourdes, Corpus Christi Parish, Presentation Primary, Salesian Primary, Balleya, St. Patrick’s Boys) with the help of 150 UL Medical Student volunteers at various levels in their education as well as UL Medicine faculty supervisors (Joseph Lynch, Clare Conway, Kate Keane, Nathan Yoga).
There was 12 stations emulating different encounters students may have with healthcare through interactive games, demonstrations and lessons. This event could not have been possible without the committee members (Janai Puckett, Olivia Pezzutti, Dhiya Jagota, Kat Dogadova, Amrit Dhindsa, Jaspreet Khaira, Eimear Higgins, Michelle Wrona, Emma Heller, Nayanika Das and Harsheen Multani) who worked for weeks preparing and planning for this event, and previous UL SOM alumni who paved the path for the future success of Teddy Bear Hospital events at UL.
Thanks go to UL Sports Arena for providing the space for this year's event, as well as the sponsors Fleming Medical and Smyths Toys. All schools in attendance have expressed interest to continue to be a part of this amazing initiative. The committee are already looking forward to next year’s event, hoping to continue the legacy of Teddy Bear Hospital at UL for many years to come.
