Project
This project is designed to provide a platform for UL staff and students to become more aware of the connections that UL has with a variety of communities locally, nationally and internationally. It is intended to increase the visibility of the many and varied relations between UL and its neighbours honestly and openly.
This project arises in response to the UL Strategic Plan's goal of developing civic engagement and increased awareness of UL activities in the wider community. It provides an opportunity for students to learn about and report on UL engagement activities and critically report on how UL engages with its neighbours.
UL Communications Office, UL Journalism Unit, UL Engage
The impact of this project will be measured by an independent evaluation for the UL Engage Report series.
Learning
UL journalism students work with the UL Communications office to source stories, carry out interviews and write content for UL news, sports and features for both print and digital media content.

Whilst working with the UL Communications Office and the UL Journalism Unit, students will be expected to be independent and self-directed in their journalistic work. Students can expect a weekly meeting with the communications office for review of work and new assignments.
All UL Practicum modules are assessed in two parts - practical and academic. .This Practicum forms part of the student final year project in Journalism. The academic work for this practicum takes place in the Autumn semester. In the Spring semester, students will be required to submit a portfolio of work, including news, features and other journalistic work. Both practical and academic elements of your work will be evaluated to produce a final mark.
