Intersectionality

The KBS embraces an intersectional approach, recognising that individuals or groups may experience or benefit from various forms of prejudice, power, and discrimination based on their unique and intersecting identities and experiences, including age, gender, race, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation, immigration status, and religion. We are committed to identifying and raising awareness of the systemic barriers to opportunities and the diverse forms of prejudice and privilege that affect individuals. As part of this commitment, staff are encouraged to participate in Intersectional Equality Training, which provides valuable insights and tools for understanding and addressing these dynamics. Learn more about the training here.

Wellbeing Support

If you have experienced bullying, harassment, intimidation, or discrimination, support is available through the University, Student Life, and external organisations. Speak Out is an anonymous online platform for reporting such incidents. The Student Counselling and Wellbeing Service serves as a first point of contact for mental health support and offers a variety of resources. Staff members can access confidential counselling and advice through the Employee Support Service. Additional support contacts are available here.

The KBS supports individuals of all ages in engaging with education, fostering an inclusive culture that values diversity and meaningful participation. We are aligned with the mission of the Age Friendly University Committee. As part of this commitment, we actively encourage the involvement of older adults, both within and beyond the UL community, in 'knowledge creation and exchange.'

In 2024, the business school advanced this mission by participating in a pilot project that engaged older adults and retirees in several modules. Furthermore, through the KBS Children's Academy, we engaged in community outreach with local primary schools, delivering enriching educational experiences to 239 sixth-class students from 10 schools: CBS Doon, St. John's Girls School, Our Lady of Lourdes, Thomond Primary School, Our Lady Queen of Peace, St. Anne's Girls School, St. Joseph's Boys School, St. Mary's National School, Gaelscoil Sheoirse Clancy, and Corpus Christi Primary School.
