The Chair was established in 2024 at the University of Limerick, led by Professor Ann MacPhail (Co-Director of PEPAYS Ireland) as Chair, with Professor Marco Rieckmann from the University of Vechta, Germany, as Co-Chair. This milestone is the beginning of a key initiative focused on addressing the intersection of physical education, sport pedagogy, and sustainable development. It aims to foster an international network of researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and communities dedicated to promoting sustainability in physical education and sport pedagogy.
During the launch event, we will provide an overview of the Chair's objectives and achievements to date and offer insights into how we plan to advance the research agenda and network for sustainable development. Professor Cora Barnett-Louw from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, will give a short talk on the topic of The Intersection of Sustainability and Social Impact Across Physical Education and Sport.
