This month ECE received an Airbus Mobile Cyber Range for research and teaching in Cyber Security. This specialist equipment was purchased thanks to the funding provided to the HEA Human Capital-3 initiative Cyberskills to Professor Tom Newe who is a Co-PI on the initiative with Professor Donna O’Shea of MTU-Cork Campus.
The mobile cyber range from Airbus, which is a unique infrastructure in Ireland, provides an advanced on-site simulation solution to model both IT, OT and IT-OT integrated systems comprising tens or hundreds of devices or machines and facilitates realistic scenario simulations, including genuine cyber-attacks. Hands-on experience by IT/engineers using this unit to detect, prevent and mitigate against cyber-attacks is indispensable for the industry's ongoing battle against cybercriminals.
Tom would like to thank the HEA for their foresight in funding this equipment. This equipment will enable students that are industry based and at undergraduate/postgraduate levels to experience real cyber attacks in a safe environment and enable instructors to deliver practical skills and knowledge that was not possible previously.
