NiteLine is a free support and listening service for students designed to complement existing mental health and counselling tools.
It can be accessed either by phone or through instant messaging, so that students gain support at a time and through the method that best suits them – and without any need to worry about a financial cost.
The service also operates out-of-hours, so that students can seek support when other services might be closed to them.
NiteLine is entirely peer-to-peer, run completely by students and for students. As such, volunteers can fully understand and empathise with the challenges that third-level students face.
All volunteers have been highly trained, following the Samaritans model, to ensure that they are able to cater to a wide range of issues.
Self-help materials can give us coping skills to help us through times of distress.
