This session introduces a framework of mindsets, behaviours, and processes that innovators use to tackle challenges and opportunities.

Innovation is now a core competency essential for success in both academic and industrial settings. It is recognised as such under the Cognitive Abilities competence area of the EU ResearchComp, with key competencies in Problem Solving and Creativity noted.

Successful innovators share common characteristics and behaviours, enabling them to consistently identify and implement innovative solutions.

Participants will develop these competencies and learn to integrate specific behaviours into their work and life to enhance innovation.

The programme focuses on six key pillars through interactive activities:

  1. Discovering & Defining Problems: Identifying problems worth solving.
  2. Questioning: Using curiosity and skilful questioning to understand the world.
  3. Observing: Actively gathering information through observation.
  4. Experimentation: Running experiments and learning through testing.
  5. Resourcefulness: Achieving more with fewer resources.
  6. Building & Leveraging Networks: Utilizing networks to accelerate learning.

The programme concludes with creating a personal “Action Plan” to further develop these competencies.
