This interactive workshop teaches participants how to connect with people and network effectively in various settings, including research settings, both in person and online.

Key aspects include:

  1. Systematic Networking Approach: Techniques for making connections at conferences and events.
  2. First Impressions and Small Talk: Practical tips on introductions, starting and finishing conversations, and arranging follow-ups.
  3. Building Relationships: Tactics for creating useful, reciprocal relationships and maintaining contacts.
  4. Increasing Your Network: Strategies to expand your network and set personal networking goals.
  5. Confidence Building: Removing the fear factor and increasing confidence through participative activities.
  6. Practical Solutions: Addressing typical networking situations like poster sessions, research or industry conferences, and formal occasions.

The workshop includes creating and delivering a conversation starter and trying out various conversational techniques. Participants will learn to plan for networking events, manage conversations, follow up contacts, and proactively build their network.
