Check out our past events
October has been the busiest month for us so far in The Globe after launching at the start of the semester this year. We are so excited to see all these events come to life in our beautiful space and we would like to give you an overview of what we hosted in October at the Globe.
Our focus in the Globe is to highlight the numerous cultural events taking place and this month we were able to host a number of them. Pumpkin Spiced Lattes were essential for celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving and welcomed on a cold, rainy day. Our Indonesian IISMA students hosted a wonderful Batik Day where they showcased traditional Indonesian culture including selections of food and drinks, dance, and of course a wonderful display of Batik from across the different regions of Indonesia. We also celebrated the Video Project our visiting students from UCC Ghana produced together with the Student Engagement Team in which they shared their experiences as International Credit Mobility Students here in UL.
We also started the month with a focus on mental health with workshops to celebrate World Mental Health Day on October 10th. Our students were invited to resilience training with UL Counselling, a Minding your mental health workshop with Jigsaw Limerick and a Colouring for Calm event. The focus on creativity continued throughout the month and our students made their own pottery sheep guided by Kerri from The Painted Pot and Halloween crafts with the UL Crafts Society.
Together with the School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics, we hosted multilingual game sessions, coffee meet-ups and a roundtable discussion in which the students could share their intercultural perspectives on living abroad and making friends.
Angela Farrell launched the series of lunchtime events with an Introduction to Internationalisation at Home and the UL Global teams hosted various sessions such as timetable clinics, Visa & Immigration Workshops, Academic Integrity Workshops and support sessions for different student cohorts.
We are excited for November that we will be kicking off with a celebration of Diwali: the festival of light – a great start to going into the darker months of the year.
