To ensure that your transition from home to UL is a smooth one, the UL Global team has put in place extensive support structures, details of which you can find on this page.

Getting set up
Orientation will commence on Monday 2nd September and the 2024/25 Autumn semester begins on Monday 9th September. Further details regarding Orientation Week events will be confirmed in due course.
Commencement date for new Undergraduate students will be announced over the summer months. Please monitor your emails for regular updates.
Students who have accepted their offer will have received an email prior to your arrival outlining the tasks which need to be completed prior to commencing your studies:

To activate your UL Student Account you must: Change your Initial Password and Register for the Self-Service Password Reset.
Once your UL Student Account has been activated you will have access to the Student Administration Portal and a range of computer resources both on and off campus.
Once you are logged into your Student Portal, you can access the online finance task* (Step 3) and enrolment (Step 4).
During Orientation it will be verified that you have completed the online course enrolment and the online finance task.
To log into the Student Portal:
- Log into to your Student Portal.
- Enter your Student ID Number in the ID/Username field
- Enter your UL Student Account Password in the PIN/Password field.
*Not all students are required to complete a finance task. Please follow instructions given to you in your enrollment email.
All international students are required to complete an Emergency Contact Form when you complete enrollment. We need to have the details of who to contact in the unlikely event of an emergency.
Every current student will have a student email account. All academic-related correspondence will take place via this email account, so it is very important that you monitor it regularly.
This is a hosted email service (Microsoft Office 365) provided by the University of Limerick in collaboration with Microsoft.
After the initial steps for enrolment are completed, students will have access to the student email system (Office 365 provided by Microsoft). Please note, your UL Student Email Account can take up to 36 hours to be created after Activation. Follow these details on how to login.
To access your email, click on "My Mail" link in portal (from a computer on campus) or go to www.ul.ie/studentmail
The format of your Email address is IDNumber@studentmail.ul.ie (eg. 1712345@studentmail.ul.ie)
For security reasons you will not be able to access your email if you have not updated your initial password (your date of birth).
Please follow these instructions in your enrollment email regarding how to get your Student ID Card.
Please note when registering your Student ID Card, all International students must use an Irish address, as this is where your Student ID Card will be posted to.
You can print, copy and scan documents using any Multi-Function Printer (MFP) located throughout campus. Both B&W and colour options are available. You can log onto any MFP throughout campus by placing your student ID card on the reader.
Print credit can be purchased online or in the Print Room, located at E1-005 in the University Main Building.
The Print IT team also offer binding services for documents.

There is WiFi available throughout campus. Students can connect personal devices to the eduroam network. For initial connection please connect to setup_eduroam and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once you receive your Student ID Card, you will be able to access UL’s Glucksman Library. Here you can use study spaces, borrow books and access printing facilities.

Bus Services
Frequent local and regional buses serve the University of Limerick.
There are frequent services connecting Limerick City Centre with UL, including the 304, 304A and 308. Tickets can be purchased using cash or else you can use your student Leap Card.
The main bus stop in UL is located at the Stables Club (Student Centre, number 16 on the campus map). There are also bus stops located at the UL main entrance, along the main avenue and at the East Gate.

Student Leap Card
A TFI Leap Card is a prepaid travel card that is the easiest way to pay your fare on public transport around Ireland.

Transport for Ireland App
The Irish National Journey Planner App lets you see all the public transport options and helps you plan your journey times more accurately.
It covers bus, rail, tram, taxis and ferries – 120 operators in total including both public and private operators. The planner provides fully mapped-out route information, printable timetables and details of overall journey times.

There is a Spar shop on campus (located in the Student Centre, number 16 on the Campus map) and another directly across from the main entrance of the university.

Certain students can set up an Irish bank account after you have registered at UL. There are a number of banks in the Castletroy area including Bank of Ireland, Allied Irish Bank and Permanent TSB. Banking for students is free. You will need to provide your passport and a letter indicating your Limerick address when you open the account. Some banks may require other documentation.
Alternatively, you can open a digital current account remotely using Revolut or Money Jar.

There are several mobile telecommunication providers in Ireland which have stores in Limerick, including:
SIM cards can be ordered online directly from your preferred network provider, and you can request it to be posted to your accommodation address.
If you plan on getting an Irish SIM card, be sure to check that your phone is unlocked. Some students prefer to buy a new phone when they arrive in Ireland
A Personal Public Service (PPS) Number is a unique reference number that helps you access social welfare benefits, public services and information in Ireland.
