On November 9th and 10th UL Global hosted 2 days of events to celebrate Diwali, the festival of light. Day one saw members of the entire UL Campus committee gather in the Foyer of U.C.H to learn about and experience the customs and traditions around Diwali and to enjoy several music and dance performances. Guests were able to observe the creation of a colourful Rangoli courtesy of volunteers from UL Postgraduate Student’s Union who also provided Mehndi (Henna Art) displays. There was a floral filled Urli on display and a plentiful supply of Diwali Sweets kaju katli for all to sample.
Throughout the event there were magnificent music performances with Dr. Matthew Noone, Course Director of World Music, Irish World Academy and his Raga music students and from Sarbik Guha and Paloma Majumder also students in the IWAMD. With a traditional Diwali Dance performed by Paloma Majumber, Deepanwita Roy and Srijaa Kundu students of IWAMD and the story of Diwali presented by Dr Santosh sharma for UL Medical School all bringing a truly festival feel to the Diwali Celebration.
Day 2 of our Diwali Celebrations took place in The Pavilion Restaurant and commenced with a truly memorable performance by Bharatnatyam dancer Ruth Pritika with Debajyoti Sanyal on Tabla accompanied by Dr Matthew Noone, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance that kept the audient truly enthralled followed by traditional Diwali music and dance performances by Sarbik Guha, Paloma Majumder, Deepanwita Roy and Srijaa Kundu to get the party started. Following dinner with an Indian themed menu guests were mesmerised by a magnificent fire performance provided by Burning Circus. The celebrations continued until late with dancing to a seamless fusion of Indian tunes. UL Global would like to thank the staff and students of the Irish World Academy of Muisic and dance, The Postgraduate Students’ Union Officers and volunteers, the staff of The University Concert Hall, Dr Santosh Sharma, UL Medical School and the entire Campus community for making Diwali 2023 a truly memorable and inclusive celebration.
