UL Global welcomed 488 new international students to the campus last week for the Spring 24 semester. Our 7-day Orientation programme commenced on Sunday 21st January with Shannon airport collections offered on Sunday and Monday. Students were greeted at the airport by our UL Global student guides and brought to their villages on campus.
A variety of workshops were offered over the week to help students adjust to the UL academic system and their new learning environment.
A host of activities were planned throughout the week which included Team “meet & greet” coffee mornings, the always popular Trad Night in the Stables, early morning Yoga class , Parkway shopping trip and a UL Scavenger Hunt. On Friday a real Irish welcome was extended to new International students with a Welcome Address in UCH, followed by an Irish music and dance performance from Celtic Steps who come from Co. Kerry to give new students a real taste of Irish culture, which always proves to be the highlight of the week.
Thanks to UL Student Life, the Speed Friending event hosted again this term, offered new students a chance to network and have some fun. Academic Registry offered our new students Campus Tours and the guides were so helpful offering lots of tips and advise to new International students.
We ended the week by taking over 350 International students into the Market in Limerick city on Saturday morning, which gives the students a chance to explore the city centre.
The aim of the UL Global Orientation programme is “to ensure International students have a smooth transition and integration into the campus community”. Based on student feedback throughout the week we are delighted to say that we not only met but exceeded our objective!
