UL has reviewed applications that students might need to run on their devices, and we have identified the following categories and suggested devices. While the buying decision rests solely with the student, we would ask students to please be aware of these device specifications when purchasing a device, off-the-shelf devices come with much lower specs and have a very limited hardware warranty. Also, these are only guidelines and certain schools/departments may have specific IT requirements.

Category A
- An entry spec device, not older than five years, which is capable of running the latest macOS and Microsoft Office 365 Apps. Must include a microphone and camera.
- Suggested entry spec - APPLE MacBook Air 13.3" (2020) - M1, 256 GB SSD.
- Suggested device from Wriggle or Select – Apple MacBook Air 13.3”, Apple M1 Chip (8-core CPU, 7-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine), 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
As a UL student you have the option to avail of a special student discount and purchase the device through the HEAnet (Higher Education Authority). If you need to customise the configuration of the device to a higher specification, you can query it with HEAnet Apple vendors. Please note, you may wish to purchase extended warranty on this device.
