Several early career researchers at University of Limerick have received awards recognising excellence and impact from President Professor Kerstin Mey.

The winners of the 2022 President’s Research Excellence and Impact Award for Early Career Researchers were presented their awards by Professor Mey recently.

The awards recognise research excellence and impact among researchers at the starter and consolidator career stage.

The winners of the 2022 awards are:

Dr Hugh Geaney, Department of Chemical Sciences, Faculty of Science & Engineering and Bernal Institute – Early Career Researcher 2022 – Consolidator category.

Dr Elaine Kinsella, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Education and Health Sciences and Health Research Institute– Early Career Researcher 2022 – Starter category.

Dr Soumya Mukherjee, Department of Chemical Sciences, Faculty of Science & Engineering, and Bernal Institute – Starter category.

The President’s Research Excellence and Impact Awards recognise individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the excellence and impact of their research (beyond academia).

Speaking at the award presentation, Professor Mey said: “These awards honour extraordinary accomplishments involving strong partnerships that have a significant global impact.

These early career researchers have benefited from our strong focus on mentorship and suggest that UL is best positioned to support excellent research with a focus on tackling global challenges.”

Professor Norelee Kennedy, Vice President Research at UL, said: “We are delighted to see these fantastic early career researchers recognised for their contribution to excellent science and the impact they are making globally. Research is at the forefront of our institution and at UL, we pride ourselves on supporting an ecosystem where excellent scientists can flourish.”
