University of Limerick Governing Authority has approved the appointment of Dr Mary Shire as the Director of Strategic Alliances at UL.
This will see Dr Shire drive a wide range of partnerships and collaborations on behalf of the community at UL. She will also lead the development of the University of Limerick City Campus, working with stakeholders in Limerick City and the wider region.
Dr Shire joined the University of Limerick Technology Transfer Office in 2005 and held the post of Director of Research Support Services for five years before taking on the role of Vice President Research at UL in August 2011.
Dr Shire, who was President of the Limerick Chamber of Commerce in 2018, holds a degree in Chemistry and Biology and a PhD in Chemistry from NUI Maynooth and an MBA from the University of Limerick.
UL President Dr Des Fitzgerald said: “Dr Shire has an impressive career spanning the pharmaceutical and higher education sectors at both a national and international level. She helped to develop a track record of successful industry partnerships for UL and her extensive private and public sector experience will play an important role in furthering UL's vision to support economic growth for Ireland and the Mid-West Region.”
Speaking about her new role at UL Dr Mary Shire said: “University of Limerick has long understood the value of forming solid and mutually beneficial relationships with partners nationally and internationally. Organisations, like people, can work better together and have more impact, leading to social and economic change and development. It is a very exciting time at UL as we work towards realising our long held goal of a city centre campus in Limerick.”
