Heartwarming new festive story features staff, students and a very special guest star
Santa Claus is coming to town – but first he has to hone his skills through education at University of Limerick.
UL has released a magical new Christmas video featuring Santa Claus’s academic journey to becoming the legendary figure we all know today.
The video captures the ability of education to be transformative, showing that at UL, anyone, even Santa—can become the person they are meant to be.
The video begins with the familiar sight of Santa Claus, but this time, he has swapped the North Pole for the vibrant UL campus, and his iconic red suit for a hoodie.
Santa is seen studying the nutritional benefits of a diet of milk and cookies, gaining hands-on experience in toy-making, and learning all the languagesneeded to read those important children's letters.
Along the way, he embraces student life, making friends, and even learning how to motivate his future elf workforce.
In true UL spirit, the video reminds viewers that university is not just a place of learning but of growth and self-discovery. Whether you’re an aspiring engineer, a creative artist, or even a jolly gift-giver, UL offers the environment and support to help you find and follow your true path.
Filmed in a variety of locations on the expansive 360-acre campus, the video features a star turn from local actor and UL Graduation Ceremonies Chief Steward Chris Rowley.
The story was conceived and directed entirely in-house by UL’s Marketing and Communications team, working with videographer Ollie Phillips, a graduate from UL’s Music, Media and Performance Technology programme.
The uplifting video features students, staff, and facilities from every corner of the UL campus community, including the award-winning library, the famous ‘Pink Ladies’ of the Plaza Cafe, and the four faculties.
The story is elevated by the musical track ‘Jingle Bells’, performed by students Matteo Lo Bracco, David Cadena, and Carlos Rabadán Salas from UL’s MA in Classical String Performance, and piano tutor Aiden Boland from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.
UL’s Acting President, Professor Shane Kilcommins said: “This heartwarming Christmas video reflects UL’s commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. It is also great festive fun and celebrates all that is good about our community, campus, staff, and students.
“It’s a reminder that no matter who you are, or where you come from, UL is a place where you can thrive and grow into the person you are destined to be. At UL, we believe in unlocking the potential of every student.”
Director of Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs at UL, Laura Ryan said: “Our latest Christmas video showcases Santa the Student and we hope it embodies the fun, innovative spirit of UL. We encourage people across the Mid-West, Ireland and beyond to explore how UL can help them become the best version of themselves – whether they dream of being the next big innovator, leader, or perhaps the most efficient gift-giver in the world.”
