The Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach is a two-year part-time undergraduate evening course (NFQ Level 7). It is an innovative programme tailor made for the adult learner. The ideal participant will have an interest in exploring key aspects of the Irish language in its contemporary environment and will wish to obtain a University qualification in Irish. The programme also targets individuals seeking a formal language improvement programme as part of a continuous professional development plan. At the end of this course, students will be capable of communicating effectively and confidently in both personal and professional situations.

The majority of applicants will be mature students (23 years or over on 1 January, year of registration). Current University of Limerick students who are interested in dual registration* may also apply. Applicants not current UL or mature students, are required to hold, at the time of enrolment, the established Leaving Certificate (or approved equivalent) with a minimum of six subjects. These must include: Two H5 (Higher) grades and Four O6 (Ordinary) grades or Four H7 (Higher) grades. Subjects must include Maths, Irish or another language, & English. Grade F6 in Foundation Maths also satisfies minimum entry requirements. A minimum H4 grade in Irish or TEG B1 is required. All applicants, including applicants for link-in modules, will be evaluated in terms of: oral & written proficiency (CEFR Level B1); academic qualifications; Recognition of Prior Learning (where applicable); motivation or demand for Irish for special purposes; Information Technology (IT) skills, and overall potential to complete the programme. All applicants, including applicants for link-in modules, will be interviewed using the same criteria.

- If your qualifications have been obtained in a country where English is an official language this will suffice
- If this is not available, the following additional documents must be provided:
- English translation of your qualification(s)/transcripts AND
- English language competency certificate
