The Certificate in Computing for Secure Mobile Applications will give potential and current ICT professionals the fundamental skills and knowledge to develop web and mobile applications. The course content will address the ICT skills shortages in particular by developing learners knowledge and skills in programming mobile and web-based applications at a level that will allow them to become mobile or web app developers.
On successful completion of this programme, participants will learn to:
- The Fundamentals and implementation of a Mobile App Development Platform
- How to Design and develop structured program solutions for smartphones
- How to program an app, with design methodologies that put security at the start of the design phase
- Develop responsive applications for various types of devices using scripting and coding methods
Course delivery combines traditional distance education with online learning with the option of attending on-campus tutorials. Face to face classroom sessions are supported with recorded lectures to present information.
An industry project will ensure a strong focus on the integration of the academically acquired skills with the practical application of those skills with an industrial partner and offers an agile and innovative learning programme providing personalised, flexible and tailored options to diverse learner cohorts; from graduates, apprentices, to upskilling industry professionals and mature students.
The principal entry requirement for the course is a Level 7 ordinary degree, at minimum second class honours (NFQ or other internationally recognised equivalent), in a relevant engineering, computing, mathematics, science or technology discipline.
Applicants that do not meet the standard qualification requirement but with significant relevant experience in the computing/technology sector will be considered under the University policy that allows for the recognition of Prior Learning, both formal and informal/experiential learning; non-accredited personal and professional education as well as work based training. Such applicants will be requested to provide a portfolio of their previous relevant work which might suggest that they are capable of successfully completing the course.
The University reserves the right to shortlist and interview applicants so that the course admission team are satisfied that they have the requisite ability in Mathematics and Computing to derive benefit from this course and to satisfy the programme outcomes.
