Ongoing global social and economic upheaval highlights the speed of change occurring in the workplace. Transferable skills, often referred to as ‘Power Skills’, equip you with the skills and ability to navigate complex and interrelated problems that exist in the workplace today. In addition to job-specific capabilities, organisations need a range of transferable competencies and skills to position their business to meet emerging challenges. This NFQ Level 9 Transferable Skills Professional Diploma has been designed to respond to skill needs identified by the World Economic Forum.

This online course has been co-designed with industry and addresses workplace needs for critical thinking, problem-solving, data literacy, ethical decision-making, and effective collaboration. In addition to exploring the core principles of these topics, you will practice using these skills, working in groups and independently. On successful completion, you will be able to:
- Apply a more informed approach to how you think, how you understand and how you solve problems.
- Make more informed and conscious use of information.
- Lead collaborations and engage more effectively as part of a team.
Semester 1
| Enhancing Critical, Innovative Thinking and Problem-Solving (M) This module will focus on four components:
Media and Information Literacy This module is intended to encourage you to understand and examine your multimedia habits and to become more actively considerate of your role as media users and media consumers. You will do this by learning the basic theories around the projection, proliferation and dissemination of knowledge and information in society. Practical online labs will consist of participants critically analysing media stories, understanding various sources and actors involved and further developing their ability to produce information. Future-Focused Professional Portfolio 1 This module allows you to demonstrate independent and self-determined learning by creating your own portfolio. It includes a thought leadership seminar series that you will co-create and curate. The seminars' themes will be student-led and revolve around future-focused topics relevant across industry. | ||
Semester 2
| Collaboration and Leadership for the Workplace and beyond This module will enable you to develop a clear and applied understanding of what collaboration is, how it can be fostered within and beyond the workplace and the type of leadership that is required to facilitate it. This module will address a number of key themes:
Law and Ethical Decision-Making This module explores legal theory and philosophy as they relate to ideas of justice and equality. The module draws on the work of a variety of theorists and movements to allow you to develop an appreciation of the social, moral, and gendered dimensions of law. Topics covered include:
Future-Focused Professional Portfolio 2 This module allows you to create a portfolio demonstrating the development of your reflective practice, evidence-based excellence in applying discipline-specific knowledge in different contexts, and leading discussion on the future of your role. |
(M) A MicroCred is a single module within a larger further award (eg. Certificate, Diploma, Masters). By taking a micro-credential you may be eligible to apply for a credit exemption should you progress to study for a further award.
Candidates are normally expected to hold a level 8 degree. Candidates who do not meet the minimum entry criteria may be considered in accordance with the University’s policy on the recognition of prior learning.
WHAT TO INCLUDE WITH YOUR APPLICATION:

- A copy of your CV
- If your qualifications have been obtained in a country where English is an official language this will suffice.
- If this is not available, the following additional documents must be provided:

EU - €3,500 per annum
Non- EU - €4,750 per annum
HCI Fees Subsidy - Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria can qualify for 50% funding subject to the availability of places. To clarify eligibility please go to Eligibility Criteria. Subsidised places are limited and are offered on a first-come-first-serve basis. Should subsidised places remain available, you will automatically receive a subsidised offer (subject to meeting the entry requirements of the programme). You do not need to apply separately for this subsidy.
