Employers have a duty to ensure employees' safety, health, and welfare at work, as far as reasonably practicable. To prevent workplace injuries and ill-health, the employer must take certain actions. The responsibility of employers and the rights of workers are set out in legislation nationally and internationally.
This module will provide an understanding of the key legislative instruments of Irish occupational health and safety legislation that apply to a selection of the main industrial sectors operating in Ireland.
An overview of the various key instruments of Irish occupational health and safety legislation (acts, regulations, codes of practice, technical guidance documents, standards, etc.) that apply to the main industrial sectors such as manufacturing, construction, pharmaceutical/chemical/medical device, and food production.
An overview of the reputable sources of reliable, up-to-date information about the key Irish health and safety legislative instruments.
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
- identify the key Irish health and safety legislative instruments that apply to the main industrial sectors,
- analyse these instruments in terms of identifying their principal sector-specific requirements,
- keep abreast of ongoing changes/updates to the relevant legislative instruments by accessing a range of reputable sources
- appreciate the extent and the principal requirements of the key Irish health and safety legislative instruments targeted at the main industrial sectors
Applicants are normally expected to hold an NFQ level 8 primary honours degree (minimum H2.2), or equivalent and have at least 3 years of relevant industrial experience.
Entry requirements are established to ensure the learner can engage with the course material and assessments, at a level suitable to their needs, and the academic requirements of the module. By applying to this micro-credential, you are confirming that you have reviewed and understand any such requirements, and that you meet the eligibility criteria for admission.
Successful completion of this module does not automatically qualify you for entry into a further award. All programme applicants must meet the entry requirements listed if applying for a further award.
The fees for this programme are €1,000.
