Brief Description
The Master of Science in Accounting offers a postgraduate route to a career in professional accounting. This one-year full-time programme focuses on not only the content and skills required to continue with the professional accountancy exams, but also with the development of skills and knowledge in areas of increasing importance in the profession, such as an in-depth knowledge around issues of sustainability, and data analytics. Students who successfully complete the MSc in Accounting, will graduate with full exemptions from all but the Final Admitting Examination (FAE) of Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI), and exemption from Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) Part 1 exams of the Irish Tax Institute

The MSc in Accounting offered by the Kemmy Business School offers students core subjects required for the pursuit of a career in professional accounting in areas of taxation, auditing, management accounting, finance, and financial accounting. This programme also offers you the chance to be led by a teaching staff with pedagogical and scholarship expertise in core and contemporary areas of accountancy. The MSc in Accounting has been developed to equip students with expertise in areas of growing importance in the accountancy profession, namely sustainability and data analytics. Our optional innovation lab and simulation modules allow you to approach business problems in an applied, innovative and creative environment to reflect the skills and competencies required in real-word situations.

- Graduates will demonstrate a systematic understanding of legislation and compliance obligations, within tax, accounting and audit domains. - Graduates will critically evaluate the professional context of accountancy in the governance and regulation of business, allowing for continuing critical self-reflection on the role of the accountant in the constantly changing legislative and regulatory environments (both domestic and global) in which the accountant operates.

Students will complete 5 core modules in the Autumn Semester (30 ECTS), and 5 core modules in the Spring Semester (30 ECTS). In the summer semester, students can elect to complete a research dissertation pathway, or a digital analytics pathway.

Normally applicants will possess a minimum 2:2 honours primary degree (Level 8 - National Qualifications Authority of Ireland) with a significant accounting specialisation, or an honours primary degree with a minimum of three years relevant work experience. Applicants must also expect to qualify for exemption from the CA Proficiency 1 examinations of Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI). You should apply directly to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland for your CAP1. Applicants who do not meet the exemption requirement or are in receipt of a partial CAP1 exemption by mid August may only be admitted in exceptional circumstances following approval from the Course Director and the Head of Department. All applicants must satisfy the English Language Requirements of the University. The University reserves the right to shortlist and interview applicants as deemed necessary.
