Brief Description
This micro-credential is suitable for students who need to complete the required area of study Aesthetic and Expressive Activities to meet the registration requirements set down in the Teaching Council Regulation for Physical Education.
The purpose of this module is to develop physical education teachers that are confident in the subject content of dance and gymnastics and demonstrate effectively, and plan safe, enjoyable meaningful educational Physical Activity experiences.
Being creative is central to these subjects and as such this module is an ideal opportunity for students to take ownership of their work.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Analyse and evaluate dance and gymnastics skills and performance.
- Examine the nature of dance and gymnastics in a range of contexts including the Physical Education curriculum and in local communities.
- Apply and evaluate relevant Curriculum Model as a strategy to engage and sustain student learning.
- Use digital resources as part of developing personal and group performance targets and pedagogical approaches specific to dance and gymnastics that will develop pupils’ technological literacy. (Digital Skills)
- Value working with others as a principle of caring for others.
- Demonstrate an appreciation of the aesthetic and expressive nature of dance and gymnastics.
- Critically reflect on their own learning experiences in dance and gymnastics as part of an integrated and culturally sensitive approach to education. (Global Citizenship)
- Demonstrate fundamental movement skills of dance and gymnastics.
- Create and perform dance and gymnastic sequences.

Student Weekly Time Commitment
10 hours per week
Note: On-campus days are compulsory and student must attend all sessions to receive the certificate of completion
Applicants must have completed, or be near completion, an NFQ level 8 qualification in one the following areas:
- Health and Leisure
- Sports Science
- Physical Education (not teaching council accredited)
- Sports coaching
- Sports management
- Athletic Rehab
- Sport and Business
- National Exercise in Fitness and Health
Applicants are not required to have completed their course yet but must be registered on their level 8 course to be eligible to apply for this MicroCred. Their level 8 course must meet 180 ECTS with 60ECTS having a Physical Education component.
