University of Limerick President Kerstin Mey has announced that the winner of the President’s Research Excellence and Impact Award for Outstanding Collaboration is the research team from The Centre for Social Issues Research, led by Professor Orla Muldoon.
The awards were organised and adjudicated by the Research Impact Committee, chaired by Professor Helena Lenihan, Kemmy Business School. They honour extraordinary accomplishments that have a significant global impact.
The Outstanding Research Collaboration Award recognises collaborations in research from all disciplines, phases of a career, organisations and countries.
The Centre for Social Issues Research has a long history of working to address the issues that underprivileged members of our community face. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Centre advised governments in Ireland and the United Kingdom on how to effectively help COVID-19 front-line workers, carers and those with underlying health concerns, as well as how to encourage people to follow public health recommendations.
“This group has produced scientific findings that would not have been achievable without their common goals, multidisciplinary knowledge, and resources. True innovation is discovered in building relationships like this, and the University of Limerick stands at the vanguard of this confluence of research and effect. My heartfelt congratulations to Orla Muldoon and her research team,” said Professor Mey.
The research team are Dr Pablo de Tezanos-Pinto, Professor Mike Quayle, Professor Orla Muldoon, Megan Ryan, Aoife-Marie Foran, Dr Sarah Jay, Dr Grace McMahon, Dr Elaine Kinsella and Professor Stephen Gallagher.

Other Centre members who have contributed greatly to the collective effort are Dr Siobhán Howard, Dr Jennifer McMahon, Dr Aisling O’Donnell, Dr Jenny Roth, Dr Ann-Marie Creaven, Dr Daragh Bradshaw, Dr Paul Maher who are members of the Department of Psychology faculty.
