The University of Limerick Foundation (ULF) marked UL’s 50th Anniversary by launching its 50for50 Scholarships initiative on 21 November 2022.
Thanks to the generosity of UL Alumni, UL friends and UL Foundation Board members, over €1 million has been raised to date for this initiative.
UL's work in supporting students from diverse backgrounds through its Access Programme was acknowledged and rewarded by donors, with almost half of these new scholarships being used to support the educational experience for Access students.
The launch event was attended by many of the donors, where their support of the University was acknowledged by the UL President, Professor Kerstin Mey, and Provost & Deputy President, Professor Shane Kilcommins, both of whom expressed gratitude on behalf of the University, to the many alumni that personally contributed, as well as those who established corporate scholarships.
UL Faculty and Staff from the faculties and divisions that will directly benefit from the new scholarships were also in attendance and met with donors.
At the launch, Prof. Shane Kilcommins noted that the University has a great commitment to such scholarships, which greatly enhance the student experience at UL, stating that “We have an amazing and vibrant student community made up of raw talent, immense creativity, a huge variety of skills and sport excellence. The importance of scholarships and philanthropic support to the University and our student body is where our focus is.”
