In 2018, Prof. Hilary Moss, Senior Lecturer in Music Therapy at the UL Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, in partnership with the school management of Corpus Christi Primary School, Moyross, Limerick, developed a community choir for the parents of children attending the school.
On Wednesday, 19 October 2022, the choir gave a stunning lunchtime performance in the Tower Theatre at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, UL.
The choir is a true interdisciplinary, community engaged research and practice project, collaborating with parents and the school team to develop the project they want and need. This has included carrying out research and evaluation of the project, appointing a PhD student music therapist to facilitate the group, developing MA Music Therapy student placements (two students currently offer individual and group therapy to children in addition to supporting the choir) and fundraising.
