Associate Vice President, Graduate and Professional Studies

Geraldine Carroll is the Associate Vice President Graduate and Professional Studies. She holds a key leadership role in the University and is required to provide leadership and overall management direction for Graduate and Professional Studies within the context of the University strategic plans. She is also required to take lead responsibility for the development and successful delivery of a cross-faculty/university-wide function.

The Associate Vice President, Graduate & Professional Studies facilitates and supports the development and delivery of postgraduate and professional programmes, and the recruitment and progression of postgraduate taught students across the University, supporting the achievement of student enrolment targets, within guidelines established by statutory bodies (i.e. Governing Authority and Academic Council) and other bodies with delegated authority, such as Executive Committee, Management Council.

Prior to taking up the post of Associate Vice President Graduate and Professional Studies, Geraldine was Professional Education Manager in Graduate and Professional Studies since 2019, leading the Professional Education (PE) team. In this role, she established PE’s mission and strategy, supporting recruitment of professional students and acquisition of innovation funding for professional education projects, as aligned with UL’s strategic plan. She secured significant UL funding for the development of innovative curricula and student access to education.

Collaboration with enterprise partners & academic leads in the conceptualisation and design of flexible curricula has been key to her role to date, and Geraldine has been a consistent contributor to regional and national skills architecture on behalf of the University. She has held the Chair of the IUA MicroCreds Steering Committee, is current Chair of the Mid West Renewables Education and Training Cluster and a member of the Government's Expert Advisory Group on Offshore Wind Skills and Workforce.

Prior to her time in UL, Geraldine has held strategic and operational leadership roles in public and private sector education environments, including Pearson, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the University of Melbourne and Trinity College Dublin.

During her time in the EdTech sector, Geraldine was responsible for a large technology portfolio of education products for the Irish, EU, US and Australian markets. Geraldine also led funded STEM programmes at Trinity College Dublin including a collaborative nanotechnology partnership between 10 universities and four industry partners, and at the University of Melbourne, a collaborative STEM initiative involving Deakin, Monash and La Trobe Universities, to innovate the teaching of STEM across partner institutions.
