Welcome to the University of Limerick (UL) Doctoral College second annual progress report, where we reflect on a year of growth and achievement in developing a vibrant, inclusive doctoral education community.
UL Doctoral College now supports over 1,000 postgraduate researchers—spanning PhD, Research Masters, and professional doctorate programmes—by providing a central hub for academic, professional, and personal development.
Our mission is to create a meaningful and relevant doctoral experience for all, advocating for quality programmes and training, efficient infrastructure, support for different research needs, and opportunities to connect within a dynamic community of scholars.
Guided by the principles of equity, internationalisation, and sustainability, the Doctoral College aligns its work with UL’s strategic vision and global goals.
Key initiatives are organised into five work packages, namely:
Communication, exchange, and dissemination
Effective research supervision
Equitable allocation of opportunities
Training and career development
Wellbeing of postgraduate researchers and supervisors
This year’s report highlights our progress in each area and outlines our commitment to further enhancing doctoral education in the year ahead. The support and engagement of postgraduate researchers and colleagues across UL have been instrumental in advancing our shared vision.
Together, we are strengthening doctoral education as a foundation for specialised knowledge and a catalyst for innovation within the broader UL research ecosystem.
Thank you to everyone contributing to the continued success of the Doctoral College.
