UL Doctoral College is delighted to share the development and availability of the inaugural UL Doctoral College PhD Supervision Lifecycle Programme

This is an important professional development opportunity for PhD supervisors at UL. This comprehensive series of workshops is designed to enhance the effectiveness and impact of supervisors, ultimately benefiting both their professional growth and the success of their PhD candidates. This programme is a valuable investment in the future of doctoral education at UL.

Reasons to attend the PhD Supervision Lifecycle Programme include the following: to enhance supervisory skills and knowledge, improve PhD candidate outcomes, stay updated with institutional and national standards, support inclusivity and diversity and continuous professional development.

Key workshops in the programme include:

  • Recruitment, Preparation, and Career Planning;
  • Ongoing Communication;
  • Preparing for PhD Submission;
  • Supervising PGRs with Different Learning Needs;
  • Attracting and Supervising International PhD Candidates;
  • Ensuring and Enhancing Quality in Research Degrees.

The Programme entails successfully completing three workshops and the first opportunity to undertake these begins on 15 January 2025 (09.30-13.00), 15 April 2025 (09.30-13.00) and 11 June 2025 (09.30-13.00).

Information on each workshop is noted in the Programme documentation. A Digital Badge will be awarded to all those successfully completing the complement of the three workshops. An opportunity to apply for the proposed UL Research Supervisor Award within each Faculty will be contingent on colleagues having completed the three modules. Elective workshops will be available in due course for awarding of a higher-level Digital Badge.

I encourage those who care about doctoral education and wish to maximise their experience as a supervisor, as well as the experience of those they supervise, to enrol on the Programme.

To maximise the experience of attendees, places will be limited.

Interest in registration for the Programme is required before 18 December 2025.
