

Three-Minute-Thesis(3MT) is an international research competition aimed at PhD and Research Masters candidates who are required to present a captivating summary of their thesis topic and its significance in just three minutes.
3MT helps to develop and refine presentation and communication skills and supports the development of PGRs’ ability to effectively describe their research in language understandable to a non-specialist, audience.
Eligibility
The minimum requirement for PGRs to participate is to be registered as a University of Limerick PGR on the date of the faculty heats, which are scheduled to take place during the week beginning Monday, March 31, 2025.
UL Alumni and PGRs from institutions other than the University of Limerick are not eligible to participate.
How to Enter
Entry to the University of Limerick Three-Minute-Thesis (3MT) Faculty Heats is now open.
Should you wish to participate, please indicate your interest before 5pm on Friday, March 14, 2025 by completing this 3MT 2025 Expression of Interest Form
A maximum of 12 contestants will be allowed participate in each Faculty Heat
- The top 3 contestants in each faculty heat will go forward to the 2025 UL 3MT final on Thursday, May 1st, during UL Research Week
- The winner of 2025 UL 3MT final will represent the University of Limerick in the VITAE 3MT competition and the IUA 3MT National Final later in the year.
Prizes:
3MT Overall Final Prizes (Top Three in the UL Competition)
- First Prize: €750
- Second Prize: €500
- Third Prize: €250
Faculty Winners (Top Three in each Faculty Heat):
- First Prize: €250
- Second Prize: €150
- Third Prize: €100
