Biography

I am currently involved in the following research projects:
  • HIST (Health Implementation Scence & Technology) Research Group: Funded by the Health Research Institute, University of Limerick
  • SPARC (Swallow Perspectives, Advocacy and Research Collective): Progressing person-centred and knowledge-based practices for people with swallowing problems.
  • RESSIG.The development of a clinician-academic research network supported by the Irish Association of Speech & language Therapists.

Research Interests

I am interested in how knowledge is generated, used, valued and interpreted and this translates into research interests in:
  • Patient involvement and communication in health care (minimally disruptive healthcare, patient evidence, communication in healthcare, shared decision making);
  • Clinical practice (bases of clinical decision making, implementation science);
  • Epistemology (evidence based practice, science and pseudoscience, evidence anthologies);
  • Metaresearch ( research on research, document content analyses), and;
  • I have a specialist interest in Dysphagia (swallowing disorders) specifically bolus modification techniques including thickened liquids and sensory and chemesthetic stimuli.

I am currently involved in the following research projects:
  • HIST (Health Implementation Scence & Technology) Research Group. Funded by the Health Research Institute, University of Limerick
  • RRR- Rapid Resource Repository for Health Professionals, Funded by the Health Research Board. Aim: To provide a rapid online resource meet the support and information needs of returning to work /new to work/ re-assigned nursing and allied health professionalsduring COVID-19.

Aim: To identify the factors that promote/compromise the implementation of reasonable adjustments/services for persons with intellectual disability (ID) in an acute hospital.
  • COVAGE - Communication in the aged population during the time of COVID19
  • IMPMAP- Using implementation science frameworks to map intervention adoption in clinical practice
  • SENSID - Sensory Interventions in Dysphagia. Aim: To explore and develop evidence for taste-based sensory interventions in dysphagia.
  • RESSIG - The development of a clinician-academic research network supported by the Irish Association of Speech & language Therapists.
