I am a postdoctoral researcher with an interest in mathematical modelling and fluid flow in porous media. My current work is focusing on modelling lithium-ion batteries with Dr. Doireann O'Kiely. Prior to this I completed my PhD on modelling Surtseyan ejecta ( a type of volcanic bomb) with Professor Mark McGuinness. I completed my PhD at Victoria University of Wellington in my home country New Zealand.
Research Interests
I am an applied mathematician. I enjoy using differential equations to explain and predict behaviours seen in the real world. Most of my work to date has been focusing on modelling Surtseyan ejecta (a type of volcanic ejecta) this involves an understanding of fluid flow in porous media as well as mass and heat transport. This work also involves asymptotic methods around the boundary layer in the problem. I am currently working on modelling lithium-ion batteries. This involves the use of homogenisation on a thermal-electrochemical model for a porous electrode battery. I have also been involved in various research out of study groups on a range of topics which includes modelling a front loader washing machine.
