Dr. Valeria Nico is a postdoctoral research fellow in the area of energy harvesting at the Bernal Institute, University of Limerick, where she leads the activities on vibrational energy harvesting for powering sustainably IoT sensors. She graduated in Physics from the University of Perugia (Italy) and obtained her PhD from the University of Limerick (Ireland). Since 2017 she works at the Bernal Institute. Her research interests encompass the design, modelling and characterisation of electromagnetic and piezoelectric devices for vibrational energy harvesting to provide an alternative renewable source of energy to IoT sensors. She is currently an associated investigator in WG02 Sustainable IoT of the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) CONNECT Centre where she is leading a project on the development of novel vibrational energy harvesting techniques. Dr. Nico is involved in various national projects, and she has authored many international publications and two patent applications. Dr. Nico also presented to several international conferences and serves as a reviewer for major journals in the energy harvesting area.
