Biography
Bláithín O'Shea is a Teaching Assistant in the School of Law. She is a first-class honours graduate of UL (LLB Law Plus, 2017) and UCD (LLM General, 2019). After being awarded the competitive Honourable Mr. Justice John Murray PhD Fellowship, Bláithín began her doctoral studies under the joint supervision of Dr Susan Leahy and Dr Alan Cusack. Bláithín's research aims to examine the principle of prison as a last resort for persons with intellectual disabilities in Ireland. Her research interests lie in criminology, penology and human rights law. At present, Bláithín manages the social media accounts for UL School of Law and the Centre for Crime, Justice and Victim Studies.Research Interests
Bláithín is currently completing her PhD entitled 'Examining the Feasibility of Prison as a Last Resort for Persons with Intellectual Disability in Ireland'.She is interested in the confluence of human rights and criminal justice. She has a keen interest in examining the treatment of vulnerable persons in the criminal justice system, in particular within the penal system.
