Director General of Science Foundation Ireland Professor Philip Nolan is to give a keynote address at University of Limerick as part of Research Week.
Professor Nolan, who was a key member of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) in advising government on the fight against COVID-19, will give the keynote address at the event ‘Learning from the Pandemic - the Power of Data in Public Health’, taking place as part of UL Research Week.
He will be joined by panellists Dr Catherine Motherway, Head of the Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital Limerick, Professor Cathal Walsh, Chair in Statistics, Department of Mathematics & Statistics at UL, Professor Aedin Culhane, Professor of Biomedical Sciences (Cancer Genomics) at the UL School of Medicine and Dr Mai Mannix, Director of Public Health, HSE Mid-West.
UL President Professor Kerstin Mey will launch Research Week 2022 and moderate the event, which is being run by the Health Research Institute at UL.
UL Research Week 2022, which takes place from April 25-29, showcases work taking place at the University and looks closely at ongoing efforts to address global challenges ranging from global health to geopolitics, biodiversity and sustainability, to the future of work.

The Research Week programme this year demonstrates the growth in research excellence and diversity across UL and also features a number of external speakers including Ossian Smyth, Minister of State with responsibility for Public Procurement and eGovernment, who will tackle climate action at the Bernal Institute and MEPs Deirdre Clune and Viola von Cramon-Taubadel, who will discuss the Future of the European Union in light of the Ukraine crisis.
