Prof. Donal Fortune
Biography
Prof. Dónal G. Fortune is the Full Professor and Chair of Clinical Psychology at the University of Limerick. He also retains a clinical role with the Health Service Executive. Dónal holds both clinical psychology practitioner doctorate (Clin.PsyD), and a research doctorate in clinical psychology (Ph.D.), and, in keeping with necessary dualities, is both a clinical psychologist and clinical neuropsychologist.Research Interests
Research interestsThe ambit of Dónal's research is informed by his clinical work and his research interests concern the application of psychological knowledge to improve outcomes for people with mental health challenges particularly in the context of an additional enduring medical or surgical condition, social or psychological adversity across the life span. He has an interest in strengths-based interventions and the factors that enable people to construe benefits from adversity in terms of growth experiences. He is also interested in research that aims to enhance how clinicians assess, formulate, intervene, and monitor change with people experiencing stress, distress or other mental health challenges. His research has been cited by researchers in over 5000 individual scientific publications and yields a current H-index of 34.
